How to Safely Dispose of Medicine – National Take Back Day 2014

National Take Back Day 2014

Organizing Tips

As a Certified Professional Organizer, I’m often asked for organizing tips. Since cold and flu season is just about over, it’s perfect timing for organizing your meds.

The DEA offers special collections called National Take Back Day to properly dispose of your medications twice per year, but you’ll have to check to see if organizations and businesses in your area sign up to participate. The next event is coming up on Saturday, April 26, 2014Check for locations here. Use Organizing Tips to Dispose of Your Meds Safely

Now if you’re saying to yourself, “Just dump the stuff in the trash!” or “Flush it down the toilet!” you might want to read this brief overview of the issues related to that so-called quick fix (as well as a list of possible solutions). I offer these organizing tips because while the professional organizer in me wants to get things done in a hurry, when it comes to the environment, I want to make sure we dispose of unwanted items in the appropriate manner.

If you are able to talk a local pharmacy into having a program set up for daily medicine bottle disposal, please feel free to announce that here!

I am bad about dumping my meds.. I normally find myself keeping them for a long long time and then I just toss them in the trash… Bad and lazy habit.. I know.

I think most of us do that because dumping them in an environmentally friendly way is not an easy thing to do in these parts. But this Saturday is our chance!
